Killing animals is wrong. They should make the ball out of pleather. I have a really nice jacket made out of that and think it would make a great basketball.
Other ideas include
bouncy ball stuff (but not so bouncy so the ball can be dribbled)
plastic (like playballs at chucky cheese)

Well..that presents a serious problem
If killing animals is wrong, then it's wrong for lions to kill gazelles.
But, the only way to prevent the lions from murdering.. is to kill them.
I think the NBA had a synthetic basketball made couple years ago but im not sure as to what material was used or where it originated. Well I guess we should also stop killing Cows, Pigs, Fish etc..
If we can't stop people from killing other people what makes you think killing animals will stop.
